About NOUS Review
A student-founded, English-language humanities review for secondary-school writers worldwide.
NOUS Review is a student-founded, English-language humanities review for secondary-school writers worldwide. We publish long-form essays, reviews, and criticism in literature, philosophy, film, art, media, culture, political thought, and related fields.
We believe young writers deserve more than assignments, competitions, and application essays. They deserve a place where ideas can be read, challenged, revised, and taken seriously.
Why NOUS?
Many student publications focus on finished achievement: the best paper, the strongest résumé line, the most polished result. NOUS Review is interested in something slightly different.
We care about the process by which an idea becomes stronger: the question that starts an essay, the evidence that reshapes it, the feedback that challenges it, and the revision that makes it clearer. Our aim is not only to publish excellent student work, but to help young writers understand what serious humanities writing can become.
Name & Logo
NOUS comes from ancient Greek and is often translated as “mind,” “intellect,” or “reason. ” For us, the name points to the kind of thinking the Review hopes to cultivate: not the accumulation of information, but the ability to question, interpret, judge, and understand.
Our logo brings together three images: a classical column, an open book, and a young sprout. The column represents tradition and the intellectual foundations we inherit; the book represents texts, arguments, artworks, and ideas left by others; the sprout represents young writers' own thinking — alive, unfinished, and still growing.
NOUS Review is rooted in existing intellectual traditions, but it is not built to repeat them. It is built to let new questions grow from them.
